State Of The City covers a range of music genres ranging from hip-hop to acoustic, from african to Indie and beyond. This CD really relects the diversity of Hull’s communities and tastes in music. WIth most tracks being written and produced in the Warren this album is a great example of what is possible when people of all backgrounds work side by side.

Double CD 'State Of The City', a 41 track album featuring some of Hull's finest talent. The CD is primarily home grown music produced in The Warren studio, it also includes many guest artists from around the city.

“In ‘State Of The City’ Warren Records have produced a CD which proudly presents the diversity of this city, and they’ve done it in a way that is more effective than any amount of political speeches or council funded promotion could ever be. If this record is anything to go by then the city seems to be in very good shape indeed.”
Ted – Journalist - Hull Daily Mail / HullVibe / Hull Advertiser

“..The professionalism, from the standard of the recording to the artwork and design. This is no patronising, social experiment. Eclecticism. It's not the indie guitar-fest that can so often be the case: journeying from the expected acoustic singer/songwriter fare to funk, electronica, hip-hop, punk, break beat, ska, garage-rock and a fair few who defy definition. For the taste of just one city, let alone Hull that's pretty impressive. The album is fresh and interesting for the majority of the 41 tracks. Double CD listening can leave the listener jaded by the end, but you are left wishing for tracks 42 and 43.”
    Hannah Houghton – Journalist – Sandman Magazine / ThatExploded.com

“State If The City is the cream of Hull’s recording talent showcased on an album that aims to put hull on the map.”
Ian Midgley – Music Journalist – Hull Daily Mail

“Warren Records is perfectly placed to nurture and launch new music from Hull and this compilation is a great stepping stone for those involved”
Harry Leckstein – MD Freeport Records and founder of the British Urban Collective

“Warren Records have got everything in place now to well and truly put Hull on the map. We should really salute them and more importantly support them in their quest of providing a base and a platform for local talent.”

about

A 41 track compilation of music made in Hull originally released at the first Freedom Festival in Hull 2009. This was the first Warren Records release that launched the label with great praise from the city. It celebrates the diverse music culture in Hull spanning most genres and supporting both established and unreleased artists.

State Of The City’ is not only an amazing achievement and celebration of Hull but also a great example of how a community can work together crossing music genres and cultural diversity to make a powerful statement in today’s music industry. You very rarely see this much quality music from unsigned artists crossing countless genres on one compilation.

As well as new and unreleased artists our CD boasts established touring artists such as The Paddingtons, The Talks, Mr.Beasley and The Neat who all have built up good reputations on the national circuit and some who have had great success in the music industry.

“State of the City is an amazing collection of quality music packaged in a really professional way. The diversity of the music is huge and I can't fault any of it. The music on this compilation would fit into the Mercury Music Prize category, you won't find any X-factor generated rubbish on here. I have already booked many of the artists for my night in London and so far they have all delivered. I look forward to building a solid relationship with Warren Records and supporting their growth and work with emerging new talent”. - Alex Kerr-Wilson - Discovery 2 London
