1.
I don’t know how to start I don’t know where to begin In a world that churns out masterpieces Each time it breathes in Like a fledgling on a cenotaph With a pair of stunted wings I don’t know how to jump off I don’t know where to begin I don’t know how to speak out I don’t know where to begin In a world that pours quotes down your throat Like on-brand Rhubarb Gin Like a princeling whose advisors Are crawling under his skin I don’t know how to speak out I don’t know where to begin I don’t know how to launch myself I don’t know where to begin In a world that spins a whirlwind When it hears a starling sing Like a Celt facing a legion With a pellet and a sling I don’t know how to launch myself I don’t know where to begin
2.
Being Alone Alone the fear that every person has someone but me Walking through on the day of love the day of passion the day of valentines everyone around me exchanging love and gifts the loneliness in the pit of my empty stomach shrivels in self pity the never ending thought that this is my life on this planet the only one that has someone to love and be happy. The thought that life and the planet wont change because I am alone in this mad place thinking of what to do alone when everyone is happy in their lives together. Being Alone.
3.
Hardline Tories grilling with abandon care-homes rock as students get slandered by moderate frauds and former MPs Brexit is a swimming pool, a parasitic disease A further headache for the beleaguered PM gagged on a high-backed leather chair gesturing to an intellectual cultural critique Brexit is a swimming pool, a parasitic disease Giardiasis is an infection of the small intestine A bizarre pursuit of total control With little chance for May to recover A black hole the size of Jupiter has been discovered In a 9x11 pit filled to capacity Brexit is a swimming pool, a parasitic disease
4.
Don’t look down You can fall to the ground Death is inevitable So fulfil your life People come, people go Yeah It’s scary, I know That sound at night when the waste is brought out Until sleep changes the situation Until sleep is the answer You’ve gotta fight the battle and learn how to row But don’t worry, It’s scary I know Change happens, there is nothing that can be done You re-adapt to the new environment A mess to the head But live on so And don’t worry, it’s scary I know
5.
Think about existence at random times Talk to self when alone Love sleep Draw Focus I want to sleep all the time Be messy Sit in the dark most of the time Watch youtube most of the time Always stay up at night Be scared of falling Be scared of being picked up Be alone Don’t show emotions Listen to music whenever you can Always play the song in your head Don’t talk too much Be scared of large crowds Over think everything Be scared of public speaking
6.
Visit America Become a mum Visit the northern lights Don’t grow up Get a Mercedes Have two children Make a van travel around the world Get a boob job Get a nose job Go to Disney They sound like the white noise of a broken TV Plain cardboard people The smell and taste of gone off milk They are like sleet, always bringing you down Looking like a Balenciaga 40mm Knife, leather
7.
I’ll tell you something that you already know There’s emotion and fortune out of our control SO if there’s somewhere that you have to go Just look to me I’ll be your chaperone If you’re out in exile on an unmapped road I’ll carry you and every ounce of your load When you need a confidant to soothe your soul I’ll run with you I’ll be your chaperone When you come back You will come back I’ll bring you to the place that you well know And in that place You’ll find us all I’ll bring you home I’ll be your chaperone There’s pain in this life enough to swallow us whole it feels like Once you’re down you’re held forever low So if you have a tendency to feel alone Just look to me I’ll be your chaperone When you come back You will come back I’ll bring you to the place that you well know And in that place You’ll find us all I’ll bring you home I’ll be your chaperone
8.
Laying in a sterile bed Gasping a death rattle With yellow, red and cloudy tubes Filling by the hour A love-letter beside your head A family marching into battle Everyone fights but they’re sure to lose As you wilt like a flower
9.
Japan Small town Mountains and Oceans Nothing like a prison Hear: People laughing, playing Restaurants the orders and the welcomes Music from the centre of town Joyful Children Smell: Food is Ramen and Takoyaki Summer air Sweat dancing Taste: Salt water Sunshine Nature Feel: Joy Every colour you can imagine Fits inside this emotion You feel this emotion In situations that are joyful and happy for you A pleasant squeal A smile upon ones face As they finally accept Life As It Is
10.
Home can be a complex place. Something to look forward to, something to dread. For every argument a hug, for every hug a imposition, for every imposition a little show of support when you need it most. It’s a difficult time to be alive if you’re young and still believe in a better world. When the place you build your new life around is the same one you grew up in, old habits die slowly and old problems rise quickly. A generation of unprepertied dreamers, disinherited by a society that’s eating itself and its planet alive, are waging wars from years ago in a life that should be starting now. But for every imposition a little show of support – we have each other, and that’s something to look forward to.
11.
I feel calm I feel happy I feel emotional, sometimes This place makes me happy It makes me smile This place makes me want to stay forever BUT YOU CAN’T LIVE INSIDE YOUR OWN HEAD That’s why it makes me emotional I want to stay inside this bubble Inside my head But there is a real world out there Waiting for me It’s arms But I don’t want to leave my own little world I don’t want to go back to real life

/ Dunno how to start Dunno where to begin In a world churning out a masterpiece Every time it breathes in Like a fledgling on a cenotaph With a pair of stunted wings / / Dunno how to speak out Dunno know where to begin In a world pouring quotes down ya throat Like on-brand Rhubarb Gin Like a princeling whose advisors Are crawling under his skin / Black nights Black mornings It’s the same old story I’m bleeding bus money In purgatory Short-term happy Long-term sad All-time confused It’s nice while it lasts My head and bitterness leave me deaf And this system is sick, cobbled and wet Plain cardboard people Blink With loveless eyes What’s wrong? What’s right? Have we lost sight? The wolves hound in harmony at the sun’s look-alike Beyond the galaxy and stars My thoughts start to thunder Society’s eating itself…. What’s up there I wonder? / Dunno how to start Dunno where to begin In a world churning out a masterpiece Every time it breathes in Like a fledgling on a cenotaph With a pair of stunted wings / / Dunno how to speak out Dunno know where to begin In a world pouring quotes down ya throat Like on-brand Rhubarb Gin Like a princeling whose advisors Are crawling under his skin / Old habits die slowly Old problems rise quickly The taste of sunlight On a broken TV The endless funeral of winter Swallowing me Mother’s ignorance Past experiences Foolish decisions Expectations Mother’s ignorance Past experiences Foolish decisions Expectations Mother’s ignorance Past experiences Foolish decisions Expectations HUMANITY HAS BECOME REPETITIVE Go back into a happy nothingness again I don’t care about people Only real friends Sleepwalking through life A distraction from the cold hard truth Dreams of mum and dad together Hearing his instructions ‘Look where you’re going, pedal fast’ Seems more than ever, I’m off the cycle track Realising too late, I forgot my knee pads And all of a sudden, the air grows damp Wet newspaper wishes Tear at my fingers Raindrops plummet With long sad faces / Dunno how to start Dunno where to begin In a world churning out a masterpiece Every time it breathes in Like a fledgling on a cenotaph With a pair of stunted wings / / Dunno how to speak out Dunno know where to begin In a world pouring quotes down ya throat Like on-brand Rhubarb Gin Like a princeling whose advisors Are crawling under his skin / Dead pensioner’s playground Juvenile Jungle Gym Renting out playhouses And taxing the swings The infinite fall into the bed of woodchips You manage to mouth “torture” through dry lips Dunno how to start Dunno where to begin In a world churning out a masterpiece Every time it breathes in Force a smile upon your face As you accept Life As It Is.

about

THREE MINUTE HEROES IS...

…a mental health & music initiative that gives young people a voice to express the worries and concerns of their generation through an album of powerful music, with words written by young people and put to music by bands and musicians from Hull and across East Yorkshire, released through Warren Records. After the success of the first album, work quickly began on phase two of the project. But we wanted to explore what impact we would have by concentrating all our resources in just one school - Withernsea High School in East Yorkshire. So, over 6 months The Warren’s THREE MINUTE HEROES team of tutors and counsellors have supported more than 70 young people in that school to express themselves through creative writing. Their writings were then anonymised and passed to bands and solo artists to turn into powerful, impactful songs. And this is the result!

The exciting second album from this powerful initiative! Thank-you to everybody involved – you truly are Three Minute Heroes!

Thanks also to the Paul Hamlyn Foundation who supported us to make this happen. To get involved with Three Minute Heroes get in touch:
